From the Pastor’s desk

Beloved,

I can hardly believe that this year has almost come to an end!
December has always been a particularly special month for me because of Christmas.
I enjoy the Christmas season.
When I was a boy, the Nativity scene was in most of the shop windows and
the story of Christmas was in the windows of the larger stores.
Great emphasis was placed on our Christian heritage and culture.
Of course, the presents were great, but I always knew there was more to the season…
it was about Jesus!

The Bible tells us in John 1:1 and 14 that
“in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God…
and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory;
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

This wonderful Saviour, Jesus Christ, came into the world as a baby
and the Bible announced, in Luke 2,
“I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people.
For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour who is Christ the Lord.”

Christmas time reminds us of God’s gift to the world – a Saviour for mankind, Jesus Christ.
He was in the beginning with God as the Word (Genesis ch1), became flesh,
was born and lived among us as God’s one and only Son, full of grace and Truth!

Oh, what a gift Father God gave to humanity, to you and to me,
when He gave Jesus to rescue and save ruined, guilty mankind from sin.
Jesus was willing to come, to fulfil His Father’s plan.

By His love and grace we have been saved!

No wonder they call Him a Saviour!

The wonderful thing about our Jesus is that “He is the same – yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8).
We can all look back over the past year and see His Hand on our lives and so, as we go into the New Year,
we take Jesus with us – or, should I say, we go with Him!

Yes, the challenge for each of us as we walk with Jesus every day,
is to trust Him and the truth of what He tells us in His Word.
We can have unwavering faith because He is faithful towards us!
There are sure to be challenges ahead, both in our personal lives and as a church body here in Glenorie,
but we can focus on Father God’s gift of Jesus to each of us personally
and Jesus’ Presence in our lives every day through the Holy Spirit.
Our hope is in Him, in who He is and what He says - the ‘Truth that sets us free.”
I praise Abba Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit for the way His church here in Glenorie
has been looked after and cared for this year.
Dee and I count it a humbling privilege to serve Him and each of you.
As we finish up this year together and then go on into the New Year as His church family in this corner of the vineyard,
let’s allow Him to lead, teach, guide and even stretch us for His good and best purposes in our lives.
Let our New Year resolution be a collective prayer to let the Holy Spirit help us to be more like Jesus! After all,
Jesus came “that we might have life and live it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

God bless you.
Pr. Alex

GOD LISTENS TO OUR PRAYERS

The end of a year and the beginning of a new year offers us a time of reflection.
Ending the year with a grateful heart for our Lord God Almighty’s Presence in our lives
is a powerful way to refocus and renew our outlook on life –whether this past year has brought us success,
fulfilment and joy or we faced grief, setbacks and struggle.

The arrival of a new year brings a great opportunity to renew and deepen our faith and love for our God.
New Year prayers can help us to look ahead with hope and trust in Him.

We are very familiar with our Lord’s promise and direction to us in Jeremiah 29:11-14
where He tells us, “I know the plans I have for you; plans to prosper you and not to harm you;
plans to give you a future and a hope.
Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me and I will listen to you.
And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Let’s enter the new year, ready to live the life He wants for us.

ON A LIGHTER NOTE:

There was a very gracious lady who was mailing an old family Bible
to her brother who lived overseas.
“is there anything breakable in here?” asked the postal clerk.
“Only the 10 commandments! Answered the lady.
